Let us pray.

Father, we thank You for the Gift of Your Word that builds men. Thank You for Your Word that illuminates our souls, thank You for Your Word that reveals Jesus to us. Tonight, I ask that as we receive Your Word, it will cause a supernatural turnaround in our lives. Yes, and Amen.

We shall be looking at the topic, MERCY

The First thing I want to register in your mind is that God is a merciful God and He is merciful to all His children, with no exceptions.

Something happened in the book of Genesis;

9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?

10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;

12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth, and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

[Genesis 4:9-15 KJV]

After Cain had killed his brother Abel, God punished Cain for what he had done and when God was done Cain still had the mouth to say “this punishment is more than I can bear” and God put a mark of protection on him.

When I saw it again a few days ago, it got me thinking that we really ought to Know God more because his mercy is deeper than we think.

Cain was basically unremorseful for what he had done, yet still, God showed him a degree of Mercy.

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

[Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV]

The bible makes us understand that the mercies of God never come to an end (Glory!!!). They are new every morning.

Do you know what that means? It means that whether or not you exhaust the allocation of Mercy for one day (which I doubt is even possible), as soon as another day breaks, a new allocation of Mercy is given to you. The Father is rich in Mercy towards His kids. Hallelujah!

He told the children of Israel, to pack enough manna for one day because any extra they keep will be rotten. Meaning I am Jehovah Jireh, the God that is more than enough.

This also just dropped into my heart. The reason why His Mercy never ends is that Mercy is a derivative of God’s love for His children. That is, showing mercy to the one you claim to love is effortless. God’s love for us freely gives us access to His mercy.

I have often heard people say that don’t take the mercy of God for granted. Well, I understand that point of view. However, I submit to you that no problem or issue you have is bigger than the Mercy of God!

You cannot exhaust God’s Mercy. If you do, it means that your problem or issue is bigger than His Mercy and that is a lie of the enemy.

God’s Mercy is available for all His children always.

Compassion (which is a synonym for Mercy) is the nature of the Godhead. That is why oftentimes, you’d see the bible saying things like, ‘Jesus had compassion on the multitudes.’

Do you know that that was also the heartbeat of God the Father and God the Holy Spirit in those moments?

That is why Jesus never rejected a plea for Mercy. He even showed a degree of Mercy to demons, how much you His children?

Now, let us in a few minutes look at the protocol of God’s Mercy.

46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

49 And Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.

50 And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus.

51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the way.

[Mark 10:46-52 KJV]

Very familiar passage of the bible, yet so instructive and insightful.

Now, Blind Bartimaeus was a man who recognised his situation. He realised that he had no power to help himself.

So, here comes a life-changing encounter, Jesus was passing his way. He instantly shouted out for mercy and Jesus heard him, but you know what? Jesus also heard the cries of a man who knew that if Jesus didn’t help him, he was finished.

You see, the mercy of God will not be so effective in your life when there is so much pride in your life, the reason being that in that state of pride, you are so independent that the mercy of God cannot find expression in your life.

Man was created by God to be dependent on Him (God). There is no strong man anywhere, only men who have been helped by God. The strength of God cannot come and meet strength, it must come and find weakness to be effective. That is why the sooner you truly realise that “it is not by power nor by might but by  My Spirit sayeth the Lord of Host”, the better for you.

When you call for God’s Mercy with a sincere heart, you will be amazed at the wonders it will work in your life.

Peter was walking on water but he shifted his gaze from Jesus the Christ to the waves and fear crept in and he began to sink, however, he immediately cried for mercy and asked Jesus to save and the bible (NLT) uses the word “immediately”, Jesus pulled him out of the water.

So before even scolding Peter for his lack of Faith, Jesus showed him mercy.

Shalom!

Nothing missing!!

Nothing Broken!!!
