How to Trust God

“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

[Matthew 6:25-34 NKJV]

Thank You, Lord, for the Spirit of understanding upon us tonight in the name of Jesus.

Wherever you are, within the next five minutes pray in the Holy Ghost.

Thank You, Lord, for the anointing of the Spirit that teaches us all things.

Blessed be Your Holy Name, in Jesus’ Name we’ve prayed. Amen

Tonight, we’ll be learning, HOW TO TRUST GOD.

I know we are being consistently told to trust God but not many know how to go about it.

So, by the Spirit of the Lord, I’ll be teaching in simplicity how to trust God.

It is my desire that the Name of the Lord is glorified as we meditate and practice these things, Amen!

****

One thing I love to do even as I grow deeper in the revelation of Jesus Christ is to go back and read the popular bible verses and stories I was taught in my childhood… the Holy Spirit opens my eyes to see a lot of things.

I’ll encourage you to try it, you will be shocked at what the Holy Spirit will show you.

Anyway, Matthew 6 happens to be one of the most popular chapters in the Scriptures and also contains a very deep truth about trust in God.

In this chapter Jesus was teaching His disciples about worry, anxiety and all other unnecessary wahala we give ourselves as children of God.

As humans, it is very easy to worry especially when it seems as if God is not doing. At the same time, it is also very easy to not trust God, especially when God has done all that we have desired.

In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us how to create that balance so we don’t fall into both extremes.

I had this scripture and I found it amazing that Jesus would say that the glory of Solomon as the richest king in his days, was not worthy to be compared with the glory of grass! Ahh!

Imagine a king so wealthy that gold, silver and all other treasures were like sand in his days. A king so blessed that people of other nations would come to investigate whether what they heard about him was true and yet Jesus said the glory of grass was more beautiful than the glory of Solomon.

I pondered about it so much and had deliberations with the Holy Spirit that,

“Ahn ahn is it that Jesus did not like Solomon or what?”

But by the time Holy Spirit replied me, I understood why.

You see, Jesus could have used any other king but He chose Solomon and here’s why:

Solomon shows how easy it is to stop trusting God after receiving the blessings of God.

Now, after giving a wonderful offering unto God, the Lord imparted upon Solomon the power to make wealth asides the understanding heart to guide God’s people.

So, you see, through the power and wisdom granted to Solomon, he was able to build and acquire so many earthly possession till they became unquantifiable but guess what, instead of continuing in the ways of the Lord he began to do other things.

He began to go against the way of the Lord by committing adultery (i.e. the concubines he had) and also following strange gods…. hmmm!

Shey, we’ll say God is wicked for blessing Solomon??

No, no, not at all!

This is a case of trusting in the blessing so much that you neglect the Giver Of the blessing.

Many people fall into this trap, that’s why after getting a miracle from God you won’t see some people again (believers inclusive).

So, this is one extreme.

Now, to the other extreme.

It will be accurate for us to say that the disciples were worried about their future since in following Jesus, they had to abandon their various professions and occupations.

They were so worried about the carnal things that they lost sight of the abundance and presence of the Divine with them.

Just imagine this! In explaining trust to human beings, Jesus had to use non-human elements of nature!

Animals and grasses!!! Wow!!!

These guys (animals and flowers) do not give a thought to whether there is lack or abundance, rain or sunshine etc, one thing they know is, that our Creator is not going to leave us stranded, and every single time, God honours their trust!

And guess what, God is not even a Father to them neither was He a Father to Solomon but He is a Father to us now through faith in Jesus.

Using the illustration of animals and flowers, Jesus tells us that the one who trusts in God continually is the one that will always be clothed with the beauty of God.

So, Jesus says all these things before showing us, how to trust God!! It’s so basic that we can actually miss it.

But thank God for His Spirit, who guides us into truth and opens our eyes to see light in the Word of God.

Jesus tells us the best and perfect way to express trust in God is to,

“SEEK AFTER HIS KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS”

Hmm!

The moment you stop seeking after the kingdom of God and His righteousness, you’ve lost trust in God and put it in something else.

And when you no longer trust God, you don’t give Him the freedom to clothe you with His beauty!

So, I want to ask… when you see the manifestation of God’s blessings, will you still seek His kingdom and His righteousness?

When you haven’t seen the manifestation of His blessings, will you still seek Him and His righteousness?

It is easy to worry, it is also easy to ditch God when everything is fine.

But tonight, by the Spirit of God you are empowered to always focus on Him alone in the name of Jesus!

Tonight, search your hearts and let the Holy Spirit convict you about impure motives towards God and help you correct them… so that you never lose trust in God.

****

Holy Spirit thank you for helping us tonight, I declare by Your power that burdens and worries are lifted off the hearts of Your children!

We serve God with joy and with a pure heart in the name of Jesus!

In the good times, in the bad, in lack, in abundance, in the days of answered prayers, in the days of unanswered prayers, we still choose to seek after Your Kingdom and righteousness!

Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name.

Amen!
