Contemplating God

By Brother Sammy

24th October 2022

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for yet another opportunity to feed on Your Word. We ask that You grant us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation tonight in Jesus’ name. Yes, and Amen.

Tonight, we’ll be looking at an important topic: CONTEMPLATING THE GOODNESS OF GOOD.

As a believer of Christ and child of God, it is important that you know that our God is a GOOD God.

And everything He does is good.

Now, every act of God in your life is good and is purely for our good.

Stay with me tonight please, we are on a journey.

Let’s look at the scripture.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

[Romans 8:28 NIV]

The Bible says that in ALL things, not some, God works for the good of those (US) who love Him.

Now if I am to take a survey on how many times God has done good in our lives by coming through for us at the last minute, saving us from shame and disgrace, or protecting us from harm, I’m sure the testimonies will be so much.

Now we enter the message properly.

CONTEMPLATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD.

To contemplate is synonymous with the word, PONDER or MEDITATE.

One of the most powerful weapons in the life of the believer is contemplating the goodness of God in your life.

You see it is important to study scripture to see how good God is, but when you have a first-hand experience of what you read, it is a game changer.

But too often, believers get blinded by today’s trials, that they forget about yesterday’s victories.

This is what the Holy Spirit ministered to me today, He said; ‘today’s victory is a weapon for tomorrow’s war’

And the more I pondered this topic, the more I saw that the believers of old understood this.

Let’s examine a few of these examples in scripture,

1 After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat.

2 Some people came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in Hazezon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi).

3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.

4 The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.

5 Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the Lord in the front of the new courtyard

6 and said: “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.

7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?

[2 Chronicles 20:1-7 NIV]

So, we see from scripture when king Jehoshaphat was to be attacked by three nations and as the wise king he was, he went straight to God in prayer what he said in verse 7 showed that he knew how to contemplate God’s goodness.

He recounted the victories of the past and it gave strength to his faith.

That is why as you walk with God make sure you hold on to each victory He gives you.

God’s consistency and track record in your life are there for a reason, use them.

Imagine what king David said when he was to fight Goliath.

37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”

[1 SAMUEL 17:37 NIV]

This right here is a perfect description of what we are looking at tonight.

He said the Lord who recused me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine. Suffice it to say that Victory is assured because of my track record with God.

His track record with you is that of Faithfulness.

So, what should you do now?

Get to a quiet place and meditate on the goodness of God in your life. All the past victories, store them, and use them to go through any other challenge that may come your way because if He did it before, He can do it again!

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

[Hebrews 13:8 NIV]

Know this and know peace!

We receive great grace to walk with God and keep contemplating the goodness of God in our lives. Yes, and Amen.

Thank You, Father, for Your Word. We receive grace to be doers of Your Word in Jesus’ name. Amen.
