Grace Vs Law Series (Part Two)

29th November 2021

Let us pray. Sweet Holy Spirit, my Father and my God. You alone is our Teacher, with You Lord we can never be wrong, Your word is true, Your word is life. Even as we are here tonight with our hearts ready to receive what you have prepared for us, Dear Lord, take the stage and let the eyes of our understanding be enlightened. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

On tonight’s edition of GRACE VS LAW, we’ll be looking from an angle of IDENTITY.

Our anchor scripture will be taken from the book of Romans 5:1-21. Please follow patiently with open hearts.

In the Beginning when Adam ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil he died. He lost his identity.

After this event man started to find his way back to God. But no man can find his way to God except God calls him.

So, God called Abraham. He became God’s friend and the one through whom man is going to find himself.

Throughout this season there was no LAW but there was SIN. Before the Law came, sin was.

We have been taught before now what sin is but for the purpose of this class, I’ll define sin again.

Sin is separation from God.

So, what did the Law do?

It just showed us our fallen state.

The Law showed that we are not where we ought to be.

Sin was in the world before the Law came. But no record of sin was kept because there was no Law. [Romans 5:13 CEV]

The Law revealed to us that we have been separated from our Father…

When God came to the garden He asked Adam, who told you that you were naked?

The Law eventually told us that we were naked. The Law showed us the problem.

It tried to proffer a solution; sacrifices, commandments, but it didn’t work. Rather it made the situation worse. The more man tried to obey the Law the farther he became from his position.

Then JESUS CAME!

The Law came so that the full power of sin cold be seen. Yet where sin was powerful, God’s gift of undeserved grace was even more powerful. [Romans 5:20 CEV]

GRACE came! And He did what the Law failed to do, He showed us a way!

The Law brought death, separation. Grace brought life and oneness.

When Jesus offered Himself upon the cross He paid the ultimate price, the greatest sacrifice.

Now we see how God does make us acceptable to him. The Law and the Prophets tell how we become acceptable, and it isn’t by obeying the Law of Moses. God treats everyone alike. He accepts people only because they have faith in Jesus Christ. [Romans 3:21 – 22 CEV]

He showed us that we didn’t need to do anything to become accepted because the moment we accepted Jesus as our Lord and saviour and we received the Holy Spirit, we became accepted.

We now have a right standing with our Father.

Our position as sons of God was restored. The grace of God grants us access to the Holy Spirit who fills our heart with love and helps us to live in the way that pleases our Father.

But there is more! Now that God has accepted us because Christ sacrificed his life’s blood, we will also be kept safe from God’s anger. [Romans 5:9 CEV]

The Law and the Grace cannot even be compared.

There is a lot of difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gift. That one sin led to punishment. But God’s gift made it possible for us to be acceptable to him, even though we have sinned many times. [Romans 5:16 CEV]

Death (Sin) ruled over everyone governed by the law, that’s why everyone who tries to obey the Law of Moses, the Ten commandments, realizes that every time they see their shortcomings. They see their weakness.

And guess what, that’s not what God wants you to see. Why? Because you are His image and likeness.

He wants you to see that you are a winner, that you are above sin.

You rule over sin. You are above sin. You are above sin…faaaar above. Yes, you are!

I want to ask you a question, imagine waking up and seeing an entourage in front of your house and they tell you that you are a daughter or a son of the Queen of England and you are an heir to the throne…

The question is, what will Change?

I don’t think there are any parents who will be proud of a child that is smart but keeps acting timid and sees less of himself. Why then do you think God is happy every time you come crying to Him when you do something you consider sin when He knows you have power?

Let us go back to that question. One thing that will most likely change is your taste. As a prince or princess your taste when it comes to clothing, luxury just increases. You begin to want quality.

When you come up higher, above the Law your taste changes. You realize that sin is beneath you.

As a prince or princess, there are things you just won’t do because they are beneath you. Even as we are now there are things you won’t do because you feel you’re more than it.

In the same manner, your thinking pattern should change as a King and a Priest unto God. You don’t need a written Law to guide you, you are more than that.

Still referencing that question, another thing that will most likely change is your attitude. You will begin to carry yourself with honour, with dignity. There are places you will not just go.

Grace reveals to you your identity. It tells you that you are a saint. When grace came it revealed that you are not just a prince or princess but a KING. Grace gives you the power to live for God, not for yourself.

Don’t let sin keep ruling your lives. You are ruled by God’s undeserved grace and not by the Law. [Romans 6:14 CEV]

I’m sorry people, but we have a new way of life!

But the Law no longer rules over us. We are like dead people, and it cannot have any power over us. Now we can serve God in a new way by obeying his Spirit, and not in the old way by obeying the written Law. [Romans 7:6 CEV]

Just the way your DNA is the proof that you belong to your parents so also the HOLY SPIRIT is your proof of identity and acceptance.

The Law of Moses cannot do this, because our selfish desires make the Law weak. But God set you free when he sent his own Son to be like us sinners and to be a sacrifice for our sin. God used Christ’s body to condemn sin. He did this so that we would do what the Law commands by obeying the Spirit instead of our own desires. [Romans 8:3 – 4 CEV]

Your way of life is obeying the leading of the Holy Spirit in you.

God’s Spirit doesn’t make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father. God’s Spirit makes us sure that we are his children. [Romans 8:15 – 16 CEV]

You are not afraid to come before Him anytime because you know He is your Father. Your citizenship has changed.

The Law is for the followers of Moses going to Canaan. You are not going to Canaan, you are a citizen of Zion! The rule is not the same!

And if truly you are a follower of Jesus under grace, you should be led by the spirit always!

You are a king now! RULE!! Take charge!!!

Sweet Holy Spirit I thank you for your children have received your grace and are bold and courageous. They rule and reign as Kings and Priests. Yes, and Amen!

I would encourage everyone to study the book of Romans chapter 6.

Do you have any questions, please go ahead and ask in the comments. God bless you.
