TOPIC: OUR SONSHIP IN CHRIST
Father, we thank You for tonight. As we look into Your Word we receive Light and Insight. We are edified and Jesus is Glorified. Amen. So we will be sharing thoughts about our sonship in Christ.
First of all, I want us to remember that the word, Son in this context is not gender specific. We are all sons of God whether male or female.
So right there where you are I need you to declare it over yourself,
“I AM A SON OF GOD”
Let’s look at the Scripture in the book of 1 John 3:1-2.
[1 John 3:1-2 NLT]
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.
[1 John 3:1 – 2 NKJV]
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
Here, John makes one of the most remarkable statements in scripture:
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God…!!”
It is not a statement made out of doubt or uncertainty, rather it was out of amazement and excitement.
This action of God is not about us but about the incomparable and incomprehensible love of the Father that moved us out of slavery and hopelessness into the place of Sonship.
And verse two tells us,
“NOW ARE WE THE SONS OF GOD”
Not in the sweet by and by when we get to heaven, no, but in the beautiful now and now.
What is most striking about this is the fact that God did this not out of reward for our good works but of His nature: LOVE.
Now we have a forever audience and direct access to all that the Father has. We have boldness and confidence in Him. Wow!! What a privilege to be in such a place in Christ.
Now notice that under the old covenant, the Israelites were never referred to as Sons of God. They were called the People of God. So David in Psalm 61:1 will make prayer and beg God to hear his cry and attend to his prayers. There is nothing wrong with praying like this as far as you are the People of God.
But if you are a Son of God, one with unrestricted access and audience with the Father then this is not your way to approach Him.
As Sons of God, there is a confidence that we have, and there is a posture of certainty and assurance that we take.
[1 John 5:15 NLT]
And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.
If you look at the ministry of Jesus you will see how He displayed this Sonship confidence towards the Father to the fullest at all times.
Let’s look at an example from John 11:41
[John 11:41 – 44 NLT]
So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”
[John 11:41 – 44 NKJV]
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
Lazarus was not just dead but he was very very dead…but He said,
“FATHER I THANK YOU THAT YOU HAVE HEARD ME AND I KNOW THAT YOU ALWAYS HEAR ME”
This kind of confidence is loud o ahh!!!
We are talking about death here which I believe is the worst state anything can be in or the worse case anyone can face humanly speaking.
There is a way to manage sickness, disease, or any other negative situation but I don’t know the way to manage death (Humanly Speaking).
But see how Jesus approached the situation and turned it around because He knew who He was.
My brother my sister, if Lazarus can come back to life then there is no situation in your life or around you that cannot be turned around. But many miss out on the manifestation of the endless possibilities in God because they do not walk in the reality of their sonship. They still operate either in ignorance or under the rules of the old covenant.
The Word of God is calling you tonight to awake unto your place of Sonship and be all that God has called you to be.
We have already shown up so creation ought not to be waiting for the manifestation of the Sons of God anymore!
Awake! Awake! Son of God! Take your place and begin to manifest!
As I round up tonight let us see what happened in the place where Son of God was mentioned in the old testament.
[Genesis 6:1 – 4 NLT]
Then the people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them. 2 The sons of God saw the beautiful women[a] and took any they wanted as their wives. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with[b] humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”
4 In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.
[Genesis 6:1 – 4 NKJV]
Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
These were angelic beings and the bible called them, “SONS OF GOD”
But what is striking for me is that when they made contact with the daughters of men, the result was that they gave birth to giants.
This opened my eyes to see that as a son of God, there is a giant in me, there is greatness in my DNA when I make contact with anything, it results in the birthing of big things.
It’s just in me like that as a son of God. I don’t struggle to make it happen because it’s in my DNA as a Son of God. Wow!!!
I have the ability to birth big things in every area of my life. Glory to God!!!!!
Listen, things are troubling us today or we are struggling with things that we ought not to be struggling with if only we awake to who we are and what we carry in Christ.
Finally, from the life of Jesus, we see a few things that we can refer to as the Ways of the Sons of God.
Sons of God are people of Light (the Word), people of Prayer, and people of the Spirit.
As we give ourselves consistently to the above in study, in meditation, in prayer in fellowship, and in yielding to the Spirit, there is no telling how deep we can tap into the endless possibilities that the Father has called us to walk in.
