“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;”

[I Peter 1:13 NKJV]

In this three-part series, we would be looking into what the mind is, its power, how to harness the power of the mind and God’s purpose for the mind. It is my prayer that as you read this, faith is stirred up in you to practice and see the manifestations of these words in the name of Jesus, Amen.

One of the powerful things God has given to mankind is THE MIND, and from the beginning of creation till now it is obvious that the mind plays a vital role in communication both in the physical realm and in the spiritual realm as well.

What then is the mind?

The mind is that element within a man that contains his imaginations, thoughts and memory. In fact, scripturally speaking the outcome of a man’s life and reality is dependent on his mind

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he….” [Proverbs 23:7 NKJV]

It is through the mind, that man is able to think and exercise his will. We see by revelation in the scriptures that Adam was able to give names to every living creature in the Garden of Eden. By the power of the mind, he was able to identify and interact with creatures both seen and unseen to the physical eyes. Despite the devil sowing the seed of corruption into man, it didn’t stop men from harnessing its power.

In Genesis 11, men had gathered and agreed to bring into reality the imaginations of their minds,

“And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”” [Genesis 11:4 NKJV].

I’ll like to note, that these men were not working in partnership with the Holy Spirit when they imagined this and the truth is, they would have achieved it if it was in alignment with God’s plan for them.

How do I know this would have been achieved?

“And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose [imagine, think, intend] to do will be withheld from them.” [Genesis 11:6 NKJV].

That’s how powerful the mind is.

So, what then is God’s purpose for the mind, why did He give us a mind?

To brace up and take charge of everything He has created:

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” [Genesis 1:28 NKJV]

⁃ For effective communication with man:

God doesn’t speak in English nor does He speak any carnal language you can think of. God speaks revelation and revelation is only gotten in the spirit, and since God is Spirit, it, therefore, means you have to be in the spirit to communicate with Him. However, it is through our minds we interpret the revelation deposited in our spirits. A good example is when we pray in tongues and interpret either as a word of knowledge, word of wisdom, prophecy, etc.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

We’ll continue with this discourse next time and I ask that as you read and meditate on these things, the limitations over your mind are broken in the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
