The Word (Part Four)

By Brother Sammy

29th August 2022

Good Evening great people of God.

How are you all doing today?

It is time to receive God’s Word that is seasoned with grace.

Let us pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for yet another privilege to feed Your precious sheep. I ask that You speak through my vocal cords and think through my mind and that there shall be no interference as Your word reaches into our hearts in Jesus’ mighty name. Yes, and Amen.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

So, today, we will be ending our series😢, you will agree that it has been powerful and insightful😁

Tonight, I’ll be carrying out a continuation of last week’s teaching on PERSISTING and then we’ll end it.

So, just by way of a general recap, we established by the help of God that, our lives should be a sum total of God’s Word.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

[Matt 4:3-4 KJV]

This is especially important.

Now, last week we were speaking on persisting in God’s Word. That is, to stay until you receive revelation knowledge from the Holy Spirit.

Now, in this process, a lot is required of us.

Patience, consistency and most importantly, obedience.

Now, let us look at tonight’s scripture.

19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 your anger can never make things right in God’s sight. 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. 22 And remember it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you don’t obey, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you just listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you keep looking carefully into God’s perfect law – the law that sets you free –  and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

[James 1:19 – 25 NLT]

As we study the above scripture, it says something that is rather striking.

In verse 21, it says ‘so get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

That line … humbly accept the Word God has placed in your hearts.

Realise this people of God, God speaks to us through His Word and it gets registered in our hearts.

Now, here’s where it gets very interesting.

Verses 22 and 23 then say something that is very powerful, they say;

22 And remember it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you don’t obey, you are only fooling yourselves.

23 For if you just listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance.

Now, this is talking of the Word of God received. Apostle James is teaching us tonight.

God’s Word comes with Light. It is instructive for our profit, yielding and benefit.

The Bible says, when you hear the Word and do not obey the instruction, YOU ARE ONLY FOOLING YOURSELF.

This is because the more you hear and do not obey, the more you stay in one spot.

Scriptures say when you listen and don’t obey, you are likened to one who looks into a mirror and does nothing to improve your appearance.

So, you see the Word, you have the instruction, but you do not act on it.

And how many of us fit this description? Where we have received light from God, but delay or do not obey at all?

So, you see that the Word of God does work but you must obey it.

Apostle James goes further, he says in 24 that,

You see yourself, walk away and forget what you look like.

The Word of God should be obeyed at all times and you should also not stop meditating on it.

Now, there are times when clear instructions come from God’s Word and there are times when you must keep meditating on it over and over so that the mindset and stronghold of the enemy can be destroyed by the Word.

Either way, in and out of season you are to be found in the Word of God obeying and meditating. The resultant effect is what Apostle James tells in verse 25;

25 But if you keep looking carefully into God’s perfect law – the law that sets you free – and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Notice he said, ‘…do what it says and don’t forget what you heard…’

The Word is for our profit o. This is why the devil tries as much as possible to steal the Word from our lives and sponsors distractions, cares of the world and deceitfulness of riches to make us forget the Word.

Let us keep looking into the perfect law of God, people of God, without wavering. The scripture says;

But we all, with open faces beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

[2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV]

KEEP BEHOLDING HIS WORD PEOPLE OF GOD.

The Word of God and from God, that is, the written and spoken Word of God is able to provide us with solutions to any problem we may or are currently facing and is able to build us up.

Shalom saints.

Finally, brethren;

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

[ACTS 20:32 KJV]

NOTHING MISSING,

NOTHING BROKEN!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Father, thank You for Your Word that has come to us in these few weeks of this series.

I ask that You help Your Words find fertile soil in our hearts to reap a bountiful harvest and that we shall live only by every Word that proceeds out of Your mouth, dear Father. May Your name be praised throughout all the ages. Yes, and Amen.

Please questions are welcome as I or my brother @Tobthom will be happy to answer. God bless you all, Yes and Amen.

Just also feel led to say;

Obedience is key.

Mary told the servants at the wedding of canna in JOHN 2:5 “whatever he says to you, do it”.

The Word came, they obeyed and the wedding was saved with the better wine.
