The Word (PART ONE)

By Brother Sammy

8th August 2022

Today I am so excited because we are starting a new series on THE WORD.

Let us pray.

My dear Heavenly Daddy. Thank You for the opportunity to feast from Your light in Your Word. Tonight Lord, what I ask for is a feast of light. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Word of God is life and it is living.

The Word of God is so powerful but if you have not known that yet, it will seem so powerless in your life.

Let’s look at the anchor scripture for today’s teaching, Matt 4:1-11

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lordyour God.’”
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

[Matthew 4:1-11 NKJV]

Now a word of advice;  when Jesus is speaking in the Word, please hear with your spirit.

He was tempted by the devil when He was physically tired, hungry and weak and He responded with the Word of God.

He said ‘…man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God…’

That is to say that if you are leaving your life outside of the Word of God, then you are merely existing.

What Jesus was saying is that the Word is literally supposed to be our guide through this life, little wonder why the Psalmist said ‘thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path’.

Also, what living by every Word that proceeds from the Mouth of God mean is total dependence on the Word of God.

Meaning, when you are faced with any issue, you go to scripture and ask, Lord what are you saying concerning this issue?

Let me tell you why;
The Word of God gives you clear insight into what God is saying concerning any and every issue.

So, first, there must be a deliberate conscious decision to live solely on the Word of God. The outcome of your life must be a result of living only by the Word of God.

The Word of God is truth, eternal truth so therefore you cannot go wrong living based on it.

In this generation, there is a great deception to live based on fact and logic, but Jesus said, ‘man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

Let’s’s analyse what Jesus said back there.

He said, ‘man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’

Now we know that man is a spiritual being and also a physical being. My point is that just as your physical body needs sustenance (which is where bread comes in), your spirit is sustained by the Word of God.

You see, this life is spiritual first before it is physical.

As a matter of truth, the spiritual controls the physical and that is why when things are laid down in the spiritual, it is only a matter of time before they manifest in the physical.

Jesus is saying your sustenance comes from God’s Word and not from philosophy and logic and not ONLY from bread, as in food.

When the devil came to tempt Him it was not philosophy or logic or even bread that saved him, it was THE WORD OF GOD (IT IS WRITTEN).

See how helpless the devil was against the Word.

Let me show you something Apostle John said that will further bring you light.

12 I write to you, little children,
Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.
13 I write to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
Because you have overcome the wicked one.
I write to you, little children,
Because you have known the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers,
Because you have known Himwho is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
And you have overcome the wicked one.

[1 John 12:14 NKJV]

Emphasis on verse 14:

I have written to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
And you have overcome the wicked one.

That Word, ‘and’ signifies a sequence or an order of things.

He said, I have written to you young men because you are strong and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the Evil one.

Now, this brings me to my next and final point.

It is the abiding Word that brings about power in your life.

Now let me cite this example.

We all know that a bullet is deadly but it is the bullet that is loaded into a gun and fired that is effective against an enemy.

Yes, the Word of God is powerful, but it is the Word that abides in your heart, that Word that the Holy Spirit has given light and revelation to in your heart that is powerful.

The Word that dwells in your heart is most effective.

That is why it is written in Joshua 1:8:

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

[Joshua 1:8 KJV]

This format is still applicalble under grace.

Mediate on the Word and the Spirit of wisdom and revelation will alight and when it does, the devil is powerless at that point.

Look at how Jesus handled that situation.

Immediately He was approached and tempted by satan, He released the Word because it was dwelling in His heart. I believe He had meditated on that Word and light from the Spirit came.

Stay on the Word people of God.

Let us consciously meditate on His Word and see how our lives will be transformed.

See you next week by God’s grace for PART TWO on THE WORD.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………

Thank You, heavenly Father, for Your Word that has been dished out.

We ask that Your Spirit will yet minister to our hearts beyond what has been said, Lord in Jesus’ mighty name, Yes and Amen.

May your glorious name be praised through out all the ages.

Yea and Amen!

Shallom!

Nothing missing!

Nothing Broken!

Hallelujah!
